The Monero team figured out the mask used by the Qubic mining pool.
• Once they know the mask, they can "unravel" the share data to see what happened, including detecting selfish mining behavior.
• After the discovery, they disabled selfish mining of the mining pool, possibly by modifying the verification or acceptance method of the shares.
Next step:
Hash(height+secret)
• The plan is not to use a fixed XOR mask, but to:
• Block height (current block number)
• A secret value (only the mining pool/server knows)
• Combine them and process through a hash function
• This will generate a unique and unpredictable mask for each block, making it more difficult for outsiders to reverse engineer the masking process.
