SEC Chairman: Clarify encryption asset rules and advance regulation of securitized tokens.

On August 1, the chairman of the SEC, Gary Gensler, stated that he would instruct various policy departments to collaborate with the cryptocurrency special working group to implement the White House's recommendations regarding crypto assets. Staff has been directed to draft clear rules on the allocation, custody, and trading of crypto assets. Most crypto assets are not securities. Staff has been instructed to develop guidelines to determine when crypto assets qualify as securities. They have been asked to propose disclosure requirements and exemption rules for crypto assets that are deemed securities, and have also been instructed to work with companies seeking to issue tokenized securities.
