Ethereum Foundation Organization and Future Panorama Update: A Clearer New Phase

Author ETHPanda

The Ethereum Foundation has announced three major updates: reaffirmation of vision, clear management direction, and optimization of organizational structure.

Recently, the Ethereum Foundation (hereinafter referred to as EF) released three significant updates, covering the reaffirmation of the foundation's vision, the future direction of the management team, and organizational restructuring, marking a new phase for EF that is clearer and more orderly.

01 Reaffirming the vision and values of the Ethereum Foundation

EF Executive Director Aya Miyaguchi and Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin jointly published an article titled "The Vision of the Ethereum Foundation," which systematically reaffirms the mission, role, priorities, and core principles of the EF. They pointed out that the power of Ethereum is reflected not only in its decentralized technological architecture but also in the broad distribution and autonomy at the level of social organization.

EF positions itself as the guardian of the "Infinite Garden" and is dedicated to guiding projects, communities, and infrastructure within the Ethereum ecosystem to maintain resilience and vitality in a constantly changing environment. The foundation's existence aims to enhance the overall strength of the ecosystem rather than becoming a centralized power node. Therefore, EF's main roles can be summarized in two points:

·Complete the tasks that only EF can do today (such as funding client diversity, coordinating The Merge and Dencun upgrades);

·Help others achieve what only EF can do today in the future (such as funding public goods projects and supporting local community development).

In practice, EF directly funds and maintains Ethereum's core infrastructure (such as client diversity, protocol upgrade coordination, and privacy protection technology research) on one hand, and on the other hand actively promotes the growth of early public goods projects, supports geographical decentralization, cultivates local community leadership, and empowers a broader range of participants through open source and education.

EF has also clarified the key development priorities for the future:

·Maximize the number of Ethereum users and ensure that users can truly benefit from Ethereum's censorship resistance, openness, and privacy protection;

· Second, enhance the resilience of Ethereum technology and social infrastructure to ensure that the ecosystem can operate independently and healthily even in extreme situations.

The foundation emphasizes: "Our goal is not simply to meet assessment indicators, but to focus our efforts on the most important areas." This approach, centered on long-termism and intentional subtraction, aims to guide the Ethereum ecosystem to continue thriving for decades and even longer in the future.

02 Clarify the short-term and long-term work priorities of the new management team

Building on the vision reaffirmed by the foundation, the newly appointed co-executive directors Hsiao-Wei Wang and Tomasz K. Stańczak also published a joint article titled "A New Chapter for the Ethereum Foundation," detailing the work directions and strategic priorities for the coming year.

Hsiao-Wei and Tomasz emphasized that they will drive the foundation's work with "guiding principles" (core values) and "specific goals" (measurable impact and resilience). The four cornerstones of Ethereum — censorship resistance, open-source innovation, privacy protection, and security — remain the underlying basis for all their decisions and actions.

They proposed three main focus areas for the next 12 months:

·Expand Ethereum mainnet (L1) scalability: Continuously optimize L1 scalability and performance under the current data block (Blob) expansion and the advancement of Proto-Danksharding roadmap, laying the foundation for larger-scale global applications in the future.

·Optimize data Blob processing: Improve data efficiency in collaboration between L1 and L2, reducing costs for users and developers.

·Improve overall user experience (UX): Enhance application layer experience, improve interoperability between L2s, making cross-chain and cross-application operations smoother and more intuitive for users.

Tomasz further pointed out that Ethereum is in a critical year for mainnet scalability, with the mainnet (L1) continuing to serve as a solid foundation for a globally neutral coordination platform, while also supporting the thriving development of the L2 ecosystem. To drive these goals, the foundation will accelerate internal execution, enhance the efficiency of planning and prioritization, and strengthen collaboration with the global developer community.

Hsiao-Wei emphasized that she will focus on strengthening the organizational construction and operational mechanism within the EF, making the foundation itself a more adaptive, effective, and service-oriented organization, thereby better supporting the long-term prosperity of the entire Ethereum ecosystem. She also specifically mentioned that in the future, the EF will pay more attention to innovation at the application layer, helping creative projects to land more smoothly, and providing a growth environment for the new generation of builders through standard-setting, tool support, and educational empowerment.

Overall, the new management team is driving EF to transform from a traditional funding institution into a modern public institution that communicates openly, executes quickly, and has clear objectives.

03 announced a new management and board structure.

To better support the aforementioned vision and strategic goals, EF has also simultaneously announced important adjustments to its organizational structure, further clarifying the respective responsibilities of the management team and the board of directors.

The current management team of EF (responsible for daily operations and vision execution) includes:

·Hsiao-Wei Wang —— Co-Executive Director

· Tomasz K. Stańczak – Co-Executive Director

·Bastian Aue —— Responsible for organizational strategy, recruitment, and training

·Josh Stark —— Responsible for project execution, communication, and marketing

The management team will regularly share their plans, decisions, and progress with the community to maintain a high level of transparency.

The board of directors is responsible for formulating the overall vision of the foundation, supervising the management team's adherence to core values in major decisions, and fulfilling the compliance responsibilities of the foundation under Swiss legal framework. The current board members are:

·Vitalik Buterin —— Founder of ETH

·Aya Miyaguchi —— Chairwoman of the EF Board

·Patrick Storchenegger —— Swiss legal advisor

·Hsiao-Wei Wang —— Joint Executive Director and Board Member

The board emphasizes that it will continuously enhance its governance capacity and structural rationality according to future development needs, ensuring that EF consistently and steadfastly fulfills its mission in a rapidly changing environment.

It is worth mentioning that Tomasz's role design also takes practical situations into full consideration: although he will continue to maintain certain contacts with Nethermind and related projects, he has reached an agreement with the board to ensure that it does not affect his responsibilities as the Executive Director at EF.

Conclusion

This series of updates from the Ethereum Foundation is not just a change in management and structural adjustments, but also a systematic confirmation of vision and strategic focus. It clearly conveys EF's positioning for the coming years and even decades: as the guardian, enabler, and coordinator of the Ethereum ecosystem, rather than a ruler or intervener.

As the foundation insists, the future of Ethereum belongs to all builders, dreamers, and guardians — this global, diverse, and proudly decentralized community will continue to move forward together, co-creating the future.

The future of Ethereum will still be written by tens of thousands of builders, researchers, and dreamers around the world. The foundation is merely a guardian of this "infinite garden," while true prosperity belongs to everyone in the ecosystem who dares to explore and build.
